Located in Mombasa Island, the park borders the Indian Ocean at the Likoni Ferry Channel, and will be upgraded at a cost of Sh1 billion.
The project is being overseen by the national government, through Tourism CS Najib Balala and will see the creation of a water park, an outdoor amphitheater, and a Swahili cultural center.

Coming at a time of heated political exchanges, it's widely expected that politics will dominate the event.
Launch of the project will bring together three of the country’s leading political luminaries who will be hosted by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
Coast political leaders are also expected to grace the function, with politics expected to take center-stage.
The launch has come at a time of heated political exchanges as Ruto’s allies have recently been on the overdrive attacking the handshake deal between President Kenyatta and Odinga.
A close Uhuru ally, David Murathe, has further stirred the Ruto camp with bold remarks declaring that Ruto was not fit to be President.
