Despite their advanced age, the couple danced their hearts away as they renewed their vows, complete with new rings.

Reminiscing their youth, Peter recalled how he would visit Emilia in the night and use their own secret language to prompt her out of her parent's homestead.

In the years they have been together, the couple has been blessed with 9 children, 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

I sold livestock and also cultivated crops, that is how we were able to raise our children,” he told the media.

Communication and faith have been the couple’s secrets to a long and happy marriage.

She was very stubborn and at one time she ran away from our home and went back to her family but her brother brought her back. Since then she has been very cooperative,” Peter told NTV journalists who covered their celebrations.

He added that tolerance and teamwork were key in achieving a happy marriage instead of letting one partner do the work.

One of the couple’s children said that she had picked up tips on how to treat a husband from her mother and would emulate her once she got married.

They disciplined so much that sometimes we would question if this was our real family but it helped set the right foundation,” another of their children recalled.
