Drama as Abduba Dida chases away GSU officers

Dida now wants extra security detail and vehicles during his campaigns.

Presidential aspirant Abduba Dida.

Dida instead insisted that the two were not enough and wants a security detail of 20 to guard him during the remaining 45 days before the general elections.

According to The Star, Dida has vowed to petition Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to increase the security officers attached to him.

He also wants the government to provide the police officers attached to him with vehicles, which they will use during the campaigns.

Dida had requested the police to send 15 officers, who will be attached to his running mate Emmanuel Nzai, his wife, parents and children.

However, the Police have declined his request.

The police have also declined to a request of 15 police officers made by another presidential candidate presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot.

Dida has dismissed those pushing the notion that the presidential contest in August was a two-horse race between Jubilee's Uhuru Kenyatta and Nasa's Raila Odinga as there were other potentially better candidates to serve Kenyans at the highest office in the land.

This is the second time Dida is taking a stab at the presidency.

He first contested for the presidency in 2013 elections where he garnered an impressive 52,848 votes and beat other seasoned and experienced politicians such as Martha Karua, James Ole Kiyapi and Paul Muite.

Earlier this month, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery assured that all presidential candidates will be accorded sufficient security ahead of the August polls.

Nkaissery gave the assurance in response to reports that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s request for a 50 man strong security detail was turned down by the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.
