The law-marker was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to extort cash amounting to 5.7 million from a family owning a hotel reportedly built on riparian land.
The lawmaker allegedly solicited for the bribe from the owner of Concord hotel in Nairobi's Westlands so as to prevail upon the county authority not to order for its demolition.
The cash was reportedly meant to be shared among 19 MCA’s who sit in the county’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and help the family in retaining the land.
This comes as the government steps up efforts to demolish buildings standing on riparian land and those standing on land that was grabbed from the public.
Media reports indicate that at the time of the arrest, wads of Sh 1000 notes were found in a box, held together by a rubber band.
