2 students impersonating Jubilee MP charged with conning Raila's cousin

The two are from Multimedia University.

The two, Derrick Kemutai Ng’etich and Edwin Nderitu Warukira reportedly impersonated Murang’a County Women Representative Sabina Chege in order to gain money from Mr. Midiwo.

Communicating with Mr. Midiwo via text messages, the accused managed to convince the legislator that the Murang’a Women Rep’s bank accounts had been frozen by KRA officers and that she would refund him as soon as the issue was sorted out.

After a couple of exchanges, Mr. Midiwo reportedly gave in and sent the money oblivious of the fact that he was being conned.

Despite making the money transfer however, Mr. Midiwo sensed something fishy after the two constantly kept pestering him for money saying that the Women Rep was broke.

Mr. Midiwo took matters into his own hands and called Mrs. Chege using the number in his contact list.

Sabina Chege refuted ever asking for money and revealed that she did not own the number used to solicit money form the Gem MP.

Determined to bring the fraudsters to justice, Mr. Midiwo convinced the two to meet with him at his office where he would give them Ksh. 100,000.

Upon arrival at his office however, the two were cornered by police and arrested.

The accused have since denied the allegations and have been released on a Ksh 30,000 cash bail with an alternative bond of Ksh. 50,000.

The case was presided over by Chief Magistrate Francis Andanyi and will be heard on April 11, 2018.
