ODM demands Weston Hotel to be demolished

"It should be demolished like all other illegally built buildings"

ODM through Secretary General Edward Sifuna demands Weston Hotel to be demolished

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Monday demanded the immediate demolition of Weston Hotel which is owned by Deputy President William Ruto.

The party’s secretary general addressed a press conference where he said it would be unfair if Ruto was asked to compensate the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) which has been found to be the legal owner of the land where Weston Hotel is built.

The National Lands Commission confirmed the irregularity of the Weston Hotel’s title deed but said Ruto would pay KCAA for the market value of the land where his hotel is built.

We want all corruption suspects to be treated equally. If you still public resources and you have built a hotel on grabbed land, that hotel should be demolished just like the likes of Airgate Centre and many other buildings. That is why we are demanding for Weston Hotel to be demolished,” Sifuna stated.

Limited space in Lang'ata

The ODM party boss added that there was no other strategic piece of land where KCAA would be compensated with in place of the one where Weston was built.

We oppose the NLC claim that Weston should pay KCAA for use of the public land. Those of us who live in Nairobi know that there is no alternative land in Lang’ata which can be used by KCAA. There is no empty land there and that is where they even had to grab school land when they wanted to build a parking lot. The land must be returned to the public,” he added.

The development came a few days after the DP admitted that Weston Hotel was build on illegally acquired land but explained that the hotel had been innocent purchaser of value.
