DP Ruto loses his temper in yet another outburst as anti-corruption war places him in a tight corner

Change of strategy as DP Ruto goes full-blast

The events of the last few days have pushed Deputy President William Ruto to the limits with frequent outbursts and rants that have revealed a side of DP Ruto that was last seen during the hotly contested Presidential elections of 2017.

In the latest incident this morning, the DP took to Twitter with a message laced with humor but which clearly revealed his anger in response to allegations that a gift he presented to Kisumu Archbishop Phillip Anyolo during the latter’s installation had been rejected and returned to him.

DP Ruto had maintained his cool despite the rising political temperatures until last Thursday when reports of massive plunder and corruption in government surfaced, blowing away his cool.

In an outburst on Friday, DP Ruto took issues with Odinga for "exaggerating figures and introducing mandazi economics that don't make sense”.

"I want to remind the 'Lord of Poverty' that you told Kenyans that if you lost elections you are going to cook mandazis in Kibra. Why are you not cooking mandazis? Why are you importing mandazinomics to the government?" DP Ruto ranted.

“They have whipped together a narrative to try and criminalise and bastardise these development initiatives. The lords of poverty, people who have benefited from keeping people in the slavery of poverty want to criminalise every development initiative.”

This marked the turning point for the humble ‘Hustler, son of a peasant’ as the DP fondly refers to himself into a vicious politician with politics forming part of his menu.

His new approach of throwing all caution to the wind and launching scathing attacks on Odinga puts him in a dilemma that analysts opine may make or break his chances of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

DP Ruto's allies on theoffensive

DP Ruto’s closest allies who are believed to be his mouthpiece have not been left behind in the events of the past few days and the allegations of corruption leveled against those close to him are threatening to burry his political career and his 2022 ambitions.

Leading in the frontline is Kipchumba Murkomen and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot who have come out guns blazing.

“For us to win this war on corruption we need to hire an extra DPP and DCI, competent ones who can prosecute their cases in court. The current drama queens can be left to run the war on headlines and social media; there they do really well. But that is just about it,” Cheruiyot stated in a fiery tweet.

Murkomen on the other hand maintained that “My personal position is that the DPP is knowingly or unknowingly maliciously being used to fight Dr Ruto in part of a wider scheme to scuttle his 2022 presidential bid”.

The DP who is on record urging politicians to shelve politics in pursuit of development and embrace unity appears to be preaching water but drinking wine.
