Chebukati hires billionaire lawyer to defend him

Chebukati's is tough

Mr. Chebukati has hired flamboyant city lawyer Donald Kipkorir to defend him him over his tenure at the Commission since the daring move to send Chiloba home for a 3-month compulsory leave.

Chiloba’s suspension saw IEBC Commissioners Consolata Nkatha, Paul Kurgat, and Margaret Mwachanya resign claiming that they had no confidence in Chebukati’s leadership. Only three commissioners have remained at IEBC – Chebukati, Abdi Guliye, and Boya Molu

"I have been retained by Wanyonyi Wafula Chebukati, chairman IEBC, to act for him generally respecting his tenure of office," the self-proclaimed billionaire lawyer told the Nation.

Kipkorir divulged that calls of Chebukati’s resignation had not been made formal yet. He further dismissed claims that the IEBC boss was negotiating to get Sh700 million as compensation for ending his term prematurely.

"As you are aware, there are some politicians who have been calling for his resignation. None of the calls have been put in writing and thus we can’t respond to them.

"We have not made any offer to anyone as it has never arisen. At the moment, our client is executing his mandate in office," Mr. Kipkorir said.

Last week speculations were rife that Chebukati, Guliye, and Molu were ready to resign but on condition that they will be adequately compensated.

However, Chebukati rubbished the allegations stating: "That is part of a series of rumours created to put pressure on my two commissioners and I, with the sole purpose of attempting to remove us from office".
