DP Ruto writes powerful letter amid tension over Uhuru-Raila deal

Inside Ruto's surprise letter

On Wednesday, Ruto penned a public letter to the Kenyan people where he sought to drive his own call for unity without making reference to the Odinga-Kenyatta deal.

The letter, which was published as an Op-Ed by the Nation, promised Kenyans that the government would do all it could to ensure the creation of one million jobs for the youth – through the Jubilee government’s Big Four Agenda.

Ruto also made references to all the major achievements that the Jubilee regime had achieved since taking power in 2013, noting that such success was the result of unity.

"While the road ahead may be winding, we will deliver — in the same way that we delivered rural electrification, the SGR, free maternal healthcare and education reform, among other commitments. That said, there is also what Kenyans can do and, fortunately for us, Kenyans have shown time and again that they, too, can deliver.”

“We must maintain this spirit beyond the next five years and transmit it to future generations,” Ruto stated.

The statement appears to be a new strategy for the DP to continue with his political ambitions in spite of the unity deal between Odinga and Kenyatta.

Last week at the funeral of the late Kenneth Matiba, the Head of State lashed out at those who were unhappy with the unity deal – a message that some interpreted to be directed at his deputy.
