Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed gives Standard Group 1 day to issue apology over Game Yetu article

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has issued the Standard Media Group with a one day ultimatum over a story that was published on their daily newspaper and their online sports platform GameYetu.

According to the CS's lawyers, the article titled "Kenyans blast CS Amina Mohamed as netball team is stranded in South Africa" was libellous, fake and false.

The demand letter served to Standard via Twitter accused the media house of causing the CS to fall into disrepute through trending hashtags.

"Our instructions are that each and every allegation in your publication to the effect that the National Team is stranded is false, fake and misleading.

"Further, in re-publishing alleged complaints which are based on untruths and falsehoods you perpetuated a falsehood against our client and causing the falsehoods to trend on Twitter under the hashtag of #ShameofRepresentingKenya and Minister of Congratulations," the demand letter read in part.

CS Amina further demanded that Standard should publish a retraction and apology with the same prominence on the newspaper's Friday edition.

"NOTE that if the apology, retraction and expunge is not complied with, we will proceed to file suit for injunctive reliefs, compensatory and punitive damages," the letter warned.
