Chaos as police lob teargas on Nairobi politicians

Politicians on the receiving end

Chaos, teargas at City Hall after attempt to remove Majority Leader Abdi Guyo

Nairobi politicians were on Monday on the receiving end of choking teargas after they attempted to oust Nairobi Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo from his office.

The Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Speaker Beatrice Elachi stormed City Hall causing fracas over the controversial Majority Leader.

The scene soon turned chaotic as police were called in to disperse the politicians who were clashing with a faction allied to Mr Guyo.

Elachi-Guyo fights escalating

The scuffle is the latest exchange between the factions allied to the Speaker and the Majority Leader who have been at loggerheads.

Mr Guyo is behind various attempts to unseat Speaker Elachi that have seen the speaker barred from office by court orders and even physical attacks and destruction of property at her City Hall office.

Speaker Elachi has blamed the opposition to her authority on Jubilee Party officials led by Secretary General Raphael Tuju who she accused of being complacent with the matter.
