Lawyer Assa Nyakundi who is suspected of shooting and killing his son Joseph Bogonko Nyakundi has been arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers.
Nyakundi was arrested on Wednesday after leaving his lawyer John Khaminwa’s office in Kileleshwa and taken to the DCI's office although the reasons for his arrest remain scanty.
The arrest comes hours after Kiambu High Court Judge Christine Meoli disqualified herself from hearing the case.
Justice Meoli cited conflict on interest since the accused was a classmate and referred the case to the Milimani law courts.
Accused of murdering his son
In April Mr Nyakundi was charged with manslaughter and released on a Ksh300,000 cash bail with an alternative of Ksh1 million surety bond.
He was initially accused of murdering his son under unclear circumstances but the prosecution opted to prefer a manslaughter charge which under Section 205 of the Penal Code attracts life imprisonment upon conviction.
At one reports claimed that Mr Nyakundi had gone into hiding, allegations which his lawyer Danstan Omari refuted.
A local media station had claimed that police were after Mr Nyakundi on suspicion that he could abscond trial after he failed to appear in court.
