Taveta Constituency Member of Parliament Naomi Shaban has quit the Jubilee Party and now she intends to defend her seat as an independent candidate.

In a short three paragraph letter dated April 8, Shaban who is also the Deputy Majority Leader did not give a clear explanation for her resignation only stating that it is due to unavoidable circumstances.

“Due to unavoidable circumstances, I wish to resign from Jubilee Party. I will no longer be vying for the Taveta constituency seat under the Jubilee Party umbrella,” read letter bearing her Constituency Office’s letter head and signature and addressed to the party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

“I wish Jubilee Party all the best in the upcoming election.”

Shaban who was first elected to Parliament in 2002, has been a long time ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Coast region from when he was the KANU Chairman and later moved with him to the defunct The National Alliance (TNA).

The letter is copied to the party’s National Election Board, Executive Director Winnie Guchu, Registrar of Political Parties and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman.

Jubilee Party is slated to hold its party nominations next Friday.
