An expensive Iftar dinner hosted by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho at Serani Arab Boys Grounds has ignited a fire.

During the June 9 dinner, Mr Joho dined with the National Sipper Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, principal Musalia Mudavadi among other Opposition leaders.

Emerging details now indicate that the Mombasa Governor had hijacked the dinner, which was also organized by the County’s senator Hassan Omar.

According to reports the two leaders planned the grand iftar dinner and even contributed money to cater for the budget.

Mr Omar is said to have contributed a whopping Sh500,000 but ended up being overpowered by Joho, who turned it into an ODM affair.

The Senator claimed that the dinner was supposed to be for NASA but Joho ’hijacked’it and even advertised it as the Governor’s Iftar dinner.

After learning about this, an angry Omar refused to attend the Iftar dinner and opted to break his fast in Likoni with the locals.

In a report by a local daily a source privy to the matter disclosed that Omar was also irked by the wording in the invitation cards which read: “His Excellency Governor Hassan Ali Joho cordially invites... to the annual governor’s Iftar...,”

Besides this Omar, was only handed only five extra invitation cards.

“He felt it was an insult to be accorded a few more cards for an event that he was supposed to get an equal number of cards as Joho,” the Star quoted.
