Interior CS Fred Matiang’i star continues to shine after Uhuru sends him on this sensitive Presidential assignment

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s star has continued to shine after President Uhuru Kenyatta sent him to represent him at the signing of a peace accord between Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi and the country’s Opposition leader Ossufi Momade.

The high-profile diplomatic event was graced by the region's heads of state and statesman including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Zambia’s Edgar Lungu, and Namibia’s Hage Geingob.

Statesmen present included former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, Mozambique’s second President Joaquim Chissano, among others.

Ordinary, President Kenyatta would either send Deputy [resident William Ruto or Foreign Affaiirs CS to represent him in such international events.

However, the choice of Matiang’i is another pointer of the Interior’s CS growing responsibilities outside of his ministerial duties.

Earlier in the year, Matiang’i was made the coordinator of all government projects, including overseeing the work of his colleagues in Cabinet.

President Kenyatta has since empowered the man nicknamed super CS to chair Cabinet meetings, becoming the first minister to have such powers.
