Dr. Auma Obama reveals the special event to be graced by former US President Obama

Obama is expected to visit the country on July 16

Obama will preside over the launch of an ultra-modern youth resource center, complete with sports and training center in Kigelo, Siaya County.

This was revealed by his sister Auma Obama ahead of his visit scheduled for 16 July.

The Youth Resource Centre that is being established by Sauti Kuu Foundation that is associated with Auma.

The facility will be one of its kind in the region that has produced some of Kenya’s greatest sportsmen and is also expected to provide economic and social empowerment to local youth.

Workers at the facility were busy putting final touches ahead of the arrival of the high profile guest who last visited the area in 2007 when he was the Senator for Illinois.

“We have information that Obama will address the public here, that is why we are working hard to complete the work in time,” one worker revealed.

Plans are in top gear to host the former president in Kogelo with officers from the US embassy visiting the area, a clear indication of the status of the guest.

Obama will also meet family and friends during the one-day visit before proceeding to South Africa where he will deliver annual Nelson Mandela memorial lecture.

Plans are also underway to establish a University in his honor. The county government of Siaya has allocated 24 acres for the construction of The Barack Obama University main campus in Kogelo.

Obama last visited Kenya in 2015 when he was still the US president but did not go to Kogelo. He however promised to return upon the completion of his term.
