Uhuru's message to Sonko after Polycarp Igathe's resignation

Igathe's resignation caught Sonko and Jubilee leaders by surprise.

A source, who spoke to a local daily, disclosed that Sonko called the Head of State to inform him of Igathe's decision and the two are said to have talked for a lengthy period."Sonko is a personal friend to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto. They talked at length. Uhuru urged Sonko to focus on service delivery,” the source was quoted by the Star.

Since Igathe's resignation, the Governor has been silent and only updated his facebook status with a gospel song 'Najua' by Eunice Njeri also promising to issue a comprehensive statement on the matter.  Polycarp Igathe on why he resignedUpon his resignation, the outgoing deputy Governor stated that he had failed to earn Sonko's trust compelling him to resign."Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm on 31st Jan 2018. "I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county," part of Igathe's statement read. Uhuru's 3-day visit to South Africa

Meanwhile, Kenyatta was on a 3-day visit to South Africa when Igathe resigned. He jetted back to the country on Sunday evening."The President jetted back into the country Sunday evening after a three-day official visit that consolidated the bilateral ties between South Africa and Kenya," part of the statement by PSCU read.
