Medical Science Programmes closed at Top Public University

The drastic move was necessitated due to the university's lack of adequate teaching and learning materials.

The Kenya Medical Board has called for the closure of the Medical Science Programme at Maseno University.

The Board on Friday said it had taken the drastic decision due to the university's lack of adequate teaching and learning materials.

The Board said that, following an inspection by the board the university had failed to implement the recommendations suggested by the team.

The university is also accused of enrolling students who did not meet minimum requirements for the training.

“Following the inspection by the board, it has been found to be in violation and contravention of the Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Act and notice is hereby issued for immediate closure of the medical laboratory programme,” a letter by the board read.

The move comes two months after the Nursing Council of Kenya suspended nursing programmes in colleges across Nairobi, Eldoret and Kisumu Counties for offering illegal and substandard courses.
