Chaos as Secondary School closed indefinitely after Matiangi directive

The Teachers Service Commission transferred over 500 teachers in what they termed as a “delocalisation programme” aimed at promoting national integration

There was also fracas at St Joseph Girls Kibwezi as Makueni MCAs blocked education officials from escorting a newly-posted principal into the school compound.

In a related incident, some members of the county assembly stormed Friends School Kamusinga to evict the newly-posted principal yesterday.

The MCAs were against the posting of Alex Maina from Oloolaiser Boys to the school to replace former principal Edwin Namachanja.

Last week, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said he would not allow new principals to be transferred to the schools.

This is against the backdrop of a stern directive by Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Matiangi which ordered teachers affected by transfers to report to their assigned stations.

The Teachers Service Commission last year transferred over 500 teachers in what they termed as a “delocalisation programme” aimed at promoting national integration

A cross section of stakeholders have been vocal in their disapproval for the mass transfers of principals.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers Sunday protested the transfers, terming them ‘political’ and aimed at advancing vested interests.

The church has also waded into the issue, criticizing the Ministry of Education for bypassing the church in key decision making processes concerning the sector, a move that is touted to negatively affect performance.

However, Matiangi told off those opposed to the transfer of school principals saying their actions reflect barbarism.

“I don’t understand why a principal from Siaya cannot be a principal in Kiambu. I don’t understand why a principal in Loitokitok cannot be a principal in Kisumu,” Matiang’i said on Thursday.
