The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) on Monday issued a public notice of the closure of the overpass at GSU Headquarters which connected Thika Road and Outer Ring Road.
The closure is meant to allow the contractor to build a better roundabout on the busy section.
During the three months, motorists headed to Thika via Outer Ring Road will take a right service lane and turn right at the underpass at the Survey of Kenya (near KCA University).
Motorists driving from Nairobi and seeking to joining Outer Ring Road will proceed past GSU headquarters and make the right turn at the overpass near Mountain Mall (Roasters area) before proceeding to join Outer Ring Road at Alsopps.
Outer Ring Road completion
For traffic coming from Outer Ring and seeking to rejoin Outer Ring, they will drive to the Survey underpass and rejoin Outer Ring via the Mountain Mall overpass.
The closure took effect on Monday April 22nd but being a holiday, there was not much traffic disruptions.
The situation is expected to escalate on Tuesday when motorists return from the Easter Holiday.
Since completion of Outer Ring Road, traffic jams have become common at the GSU headquarters as many users in estates such as Kariobangi South, Umoja, Buruburu, and Donholm prefer to use Thika Road and Outer Ring Roads during peak hours.
