Controversial Nairobi business woman arrested

Controversial Nairobi business woman Joyce Akinyi has been arrested and drugs worth Sh3 million recovered.

Akinyi was arrested on Saturday alongside a Congolese man after police raided a restaurant in Nairobi West and recovered 2 Kilograms of heroin.

The two were taken to Muthaiga Police station where they are being held, as they await to be charged in court on Monday.

2013

This is however, not the first time the controversial business woman has been arrested in connection with drug trafficking.

In 2013, Akinyi and Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala were arrested by police along the Nairobi-Namanga highway on claims of drug trafficking.

They were later on released after they insisted that they were carrying maize flour that they had imported from Tanzania.

2008

A few years before that, Wanjala and Akinyi were detained in India after authorities found them with undeclared Sh7.59 million.

New Delhi’s revenue intelligence department and the narcotics bureau were investigating if the money was to be spent on drugs. The two were released following intervention by Kenyan authorities.

Joyce Akinyi came to the limelight after a fight between her and her Nigerian husband and businessman Anthony Chinedu over property.

Chinedu was later deported over drug trafficking and possession in June 2013
