Desperate move by Sonko during appointment of cabinet

This was the only choice left

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko reappointed two former County Executive Committee members (CECs) who he had previously suspended.

Sonko recalled back Hitan Majevdia and Vesca Kangongo, to fill in the two vacant posts in his cabinet after suffering a huge blow with two of the nominees for the job.

The two have replaced Environment CEC nominee Sonia Birdi, who was rejected for the post by the County Assembly and Health Services nominee Stella Bosire, who refused to show up for the vetting process.

Majevdia was suspended in August 2018 as the Health Services CEC while Kangongo had been halted as Devolution CEC in September the same year over allegations of insubordination.

Kangongo has now been granted the role of Environment CEC and her counterpart Majevdia will be the head of the Roads, Transport and Infrastructure department.

Birdi rejected while Bosire refuses job in Sonko's cabinet

Last month, Birdi had been denied the position as the head of the environment department in Sonko’s cabinet by the County Assembly Committee on appointments due to her being temperamental and non-conversant with key issues.

During her vetting, the former URP nominated MP had been forced to defend her D+ grade score during her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

She claimed that the grade was not a sign of failure but that of preparedness to work for the residents of the city.

Bosire on the other hand, had refused to appear for her grilling process after she stated that there were pending issues yet to be addressed specifically Sonko’s style of governance.
