President Uhuru Kenyatta and his depty William Ruto cancelled parallel meetings that they were scheduled to attend on Sunday, November 10 at the last minute amidst concerns of a showdown with his deputy.

The President was scheduled to preside over a fundraiser at ACK St. Peter Cathedral in Kenol area while DP Ruto was to be the chief guest at a fundraiser in neighboring Kandara constituency but the two droped the parallel events from their itinerary at the last minute amidst speculation of a showdown.

The decision was arrived at the last minute on Sunday morning, just a few hours to the event with many residents expressing disappointment.

Reports indicate that the president’s security detail were already on the ground in the morning, an indication that the head of state would visit the area as planned.

The President was instead represented by Cabinet secretaries, Dr Fred Matiang'i (Interior), James Macharia (Transport and Infrastructure) and Joe Mucheru (ICT).

Area leaders and Jubilee politicians had been divided over which event to attend with reports indicating that it is the latest sign of the bitter rivalry between the president and his deputy with politicians caught up in the mix as attending one event will leave no doubt on where their loyalty lies.
