African Union High Representative For infrastructure Raila Odinga hosted outgoing U.S Ambassador to Kenya Bob Godec at his home on Thursday morning.

Mr Odinga stated that his wife Ida Odinga, had hosted a farewell breakfast for Mr Godec.

A statement by the Opposition leader read: "Mama @IdaOdinga and I this morning hosted a farewell breakfast for the outgoing US Ambassador to Kenya Bob Godec who is leaving the country at the end of the month after six years in Nairobi."

The statement further read: "He promised continued support for the Building Bridges Initiative and the war on corruption."

U.S President Donald Trump picked a Kiswahili-speaking US senator to replace the long-serving ambassador Godec.

Trump picked Senator Kyle McCarter of downstate Lebanon who has lived in Kenya doing charity work with Each One Feed One International.

According to the White House, Mr McCarter served as a field auditor, missionary, and international director of the charity group based in Lebanon, Illinois.

Godec becomes the longest-serving US envoy, not just to Kenya but also in the world, having stayed for slightly over six years.

His tour of tour of duty was extended twice, allowing him to oversee the August 2017 General Election and October 26 repeat presidential election.
