In a tweet on Thursday, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot said it was wrong for the standard to publish false stories, just to please some people.
He also denied that he spoke to the Newspaper that quoted him in a story that was titled, “Disquiet among DP’s allies after Matiang’i gets more powers”.
"Shame on you @StandardKenya . I never spoke to you as you claim. This is stooping too low as you try to please your sponsors," read the Kericho Senator's tweet.
The vocal senators words came after the Newspaper claimed to have talked to him and went ahead to quote him in a section of the story that claimed politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto were restless over the President’s move to appoint CS Fred Matiang’i as Chief Minister.
Quoted
Standard quoted Senator Cheruiyot to have said that, “The President cannot change the constitution, he can only respect it. This is just normal reorganization of Government, just like the creation of the position of Chief Administrative Secretary” “The DP is still the principal assistant to the President. Nothing has changed. Those claiming he has been sidelined in the Executive Order are deluding themselves. The Constitution is clear about his role.” Wrote the Standard Newspaper.
The paper claimed that it had seen a WhatsApp group conversation where the Members of Parliament interpreted the Executive Order to have handed Interior CS Fred Matiang’i more powers than DP William Ruto.
