A volunteer with Kenya Red Cross Society was hacked to death in Mbwajumwali village in Lamu East.
Amina Bakari, who is also an official of Nyumba Kumi, was attacked with a panga by unknown people as she closed her shop on Monday night.
Kenya Red Cross Society Lamu Branch Coordinator Kauthar Alwy confirmed that Ms Bakari worked with them, adding that she was an active member of the organization.
“I have received the news with shock. I can’t believe that Amina is no more. Apart from being a peer educator, she was also a peace ambassador in Mbwajumwali," Mrs Alwy said.
Police investigations
"As Kenya Red Cross Society, we had sponsored a youth group in the village as a form of empowering them. Amina was the chair lady of the group and they were doing well," she explained.
Reports by the Daily Nation further revealed that the police were yet to make any arrests in conjunction with the murder.
County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said that police were and it was still early for them to issue a report on the murder.
Last year Lamu was put on the spot over crimes and murders that have occurred with certain areas being flagged as the most notorious drug peddling areas in the County.
