Suspected drug lord Ali Punjani quietly returns to Kenya, fires his lawyers

Ali Punjani back in Kenya

Suspected Mombasa drug lord Ali Punjani quietly returns to Kenya, fires his lawyers Gerald Magolo and Jeff Asige

Suspected drug trafficker Ali Punjani is said to be back in the country from his medical trip to India.

Mr Punjani got back to the country quietly two weeks ago and has since fired his lawyers Gerald Magolo and Jeff Asige who had petitioned the court on his behalf, to block his impending arrest.

"He was discharged from hospital three weeks ago and stayed with a relative as arrangements were made on how he should come back into the country. He has since cut contacts with the lawyers," an undisclosed family source confirmed to K24.

The Mombasa tycoon allegedly underwent a heart surgery while in India and took some time to recuperate.

Punjani's Nyali House raided by police

His house was raided by detectives in early August this year and Coast Regional police coordinator Johnstone Ipara asked him to surrender.

"We are asking this man and his associates to surrender at any police station in Kenya. The raid follows a meeting with the CS who instructed us to deal with the drug issue, which is the main cause of violence in the region," the police boss explained at the time.
