Corporal Daniel Rioba arrested for taking Sh200,000 bribe from Treasury driver

Corporal Daniel Arimba Rioba has been arrested by his colleagues after it emerged that he had pocketed a Sh200,000 bribe to release a Treasury driver who was attached to Henry Rotich.

DCI investigators established that the police officer had demanded Sh300,000 after he had orchestrated the arrest of the driver on Monday telling him that he was also being investigated for corruption.

When the driver could not raise the Sh300,000, the officer accepted Sh200,000 and released the driver from Kamukunji Police Station.

"DCI urges members of the public to always insist on being shown the Certificate of Appointment (C.o.A) whenever ANYONE purports to be a DCI officer & if still in doubt, to ask for the telephone number of their immediate boss to call and confirm the IDENTITY," a statement from the DCI read in part.

Rotich, Thugge barred from returning to Treasury

Former CS Henry Rotich and former PS Kamau Thugge were barred from visiting the Treasury building as one of the terms for their release on Tuesday.

"The places of work of the accused persons are considered scenes of crime and they should keep away. If there is any need to visit their places of work that should be done in the presence of the investigating officer," Magistrate Douglas Ogot ordered.
