Makali expelled from Namwamba's Labor Party after links to NASA emerge

Party's NEC said Makali failed to popularise Labour Party in Bungoma. He has also been accused of dictatorship and arrogance.

Former pundit TV journalist and now politician David Makali was on Friday shown the door from the Ababu Namwambas Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) over suspected links with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Makali, 35, has been serving as the party's Secretary General and is optimistic at ousting Senetor Moses Wetangula for the Bungoma County senatorial seat in the august polls.

Already the party's National Executive Council has appointed organising secretary Peter ole Musei as acting secretary general.

Speaking to the press, youth treasurer Ignatius Nyukuri said Makali has been pushing Labour Party to join hands with the newly launched National Super Alliance (NASA).

"A majority of NEC members are inclined to Jubilee; it's only Makali who has been pushing the party to work with NASA," he said.

Namwamba-Uhuru ties

Despite serial denials, political analysts argue that Ababu Namwamba’s party is a whole project of Jubilee in the western region to have the votes shared out. On a recent tour to the western region, Deputy President William Ruto was seen in apolitical rally which was attended by Namwamba.

However, Ababu has in the recent past denied being funded by President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party, adding that his LPK is a third force, which is not interested in joining any coalition.

Nyukuri said Makali told the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that he has had several meetings with Raila who indicated his willingness to work with former ally Ababu, prompting his dismal from the party.

The council has also leveled accusations against Makali for failing to popularise Labour Party even in his Bungoma backyard. He has also been accused of dictatorship and arrogance.

Makali allegedly posted a message on Labour Party WhatsApp group: “This is the kind of nonsense I don’t expect from any party leave alone the one I belong to…”
