County boss murdered in cold blood

Homabay County Transport and Infrastructure County Excecutive Committee (CEC) member Philemon Donny Opar was on Friday night shot dead by unknown gunmen.

According reports, the County Ministered was accosted by unknown assailants at a Petrol Station in Kendu-Bay pumping bullets into his body.

Rachuonyo North police boss Nelson Ojuok confirmed the incident, adding that police have launched investigations into the matter.

Details about the incident remain scanty with investigations launched to establish the motive of the killing and those behind it.

Opar was appointed to the role in April 2019 and was in charge of the County Transport and Infrastructure docket, after replacing Prof Richard Muga who formerly held the position.

Prior to joining the county government, the accomplished finance professional worked with various Non-Governmental Organizations in the region.

Opar was also a politician and he unsuccessfully vied for the Karachuonyo Parliamentary seat, but lost to the current MP Andrew Adipo.
