Politician turned pro footballer.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen impressed football fans after posting a video of himself scoring a set-piece.

The video shows Murkomen, who plays for Bunge FC, taking a free-kick from outside the penalty box.

The senator skillfully curved the ball into the net, bypassing the line of defence that had been mounted between him and the goal post.

The shot was no match for the opponent’s the goalkeeper who stretched as much as he could but unfortunately for him, it wasn’t enough.

Murkomen joked that he was up for signing to any team that would require his skills.

Donning the famous number 7 jersey associated with Cristiano Ronaldo, the politician who is a Manchester United Fan had to live up to the expectations.

Bunge FC was a project of the late former President Daniel Moi, who was known for his love for sports.

As its captain, Moi played alongside his Cabinet colleagues Tom Mboya, Bruce McKenzie and Robert Ouko, among others.

Biggest loss

In 2018, the Bunge FC was handed what could be its biggest loss in a match against Endebess FC.

The matter was discussed on the floor of the house, with some MPs jokingly calling for its disbandment.

Deputy Speaker, this is a House of facts and truth. The Chair cannot lead the House when he decides to hide the truth. To the knowledge of the Leadership, Bunge F.C. was beaten 8-1. Having done that, we are going to call for the disbandment of Bunge F.C. so that we can choose a new team. Of all the constituencies, Endebess, a rural constituency, beat Bunge F.C. The server should be opened and the results verified,” Garissa Town MP Aden Duale said.

Deputy Speaker, it is very embarrassing to hear we lost 8-1. I am keen to find out who the Members in that team are. In order to reclaim the glory of this House, please allow us to disband that team and replace it with ladies led by Millie Odhiambo,” said Cecily Mbarire.

Deputy Speaker, I want to inform the House that if our team is composed of people with big tummies like Hon. Milemba and I, then we have no reason to complain that we lost 8-1. Therefore, we should disband that team of “stomach” people and replace it with ladies,” Jimmy Angwenyi added.
