Heavily armed police officers take control of Nairobi toilets [PHOTOS]

It is getting more ugly.

The takeover is set to spark a controversy even after the county government claimed that it had no interest in the control of the public facilities as dozens of investors claim they have invested on the project.

Since March, there has been a brewing dispute over Public toilets in Nairobi's Central Business District.

The Toilet operations association of Kenya, which manages public toilets in Nairobi County, said earlier that it was concerned about an organized gang which was jostling to take up their jobs.

Police are still investigating these claims that may affect public access to the toilets.

In May, goons who were allegedly linked to Governor Sonko and his predecessor Evans Kidero exchanged blows over the control of the toilets, forcing the police to intervene. The two leaders did not comment on the matter.

"City residents should not be charged to use public toilets. It is unfair to charge voters of Nairobi to use a public facility,” he said.
