Ben Chumo rejected after vetting

Chumo thrown out!

The Members of Parliament cited integrity question raised against him during his tenure at the energy firm.

The legislators said this in a report tabled in the August House on Wednesday. They quoted the Constitution noting that the corruption related charges filed against Chumo will inhibit him from taking up the chairman position at the SRC.

"The committee considered how provisions of section 62 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes would affect the nominee, as it requires that a public officer who has been charged with corruption or economic crimes should be suspended. Therefore, the nominee, if approved, would find it difficult to take up the position," the report reads in part.

"The Committee is of the view that the nominee is unsuitable to be appointed as the chairperson of the SRC," the lawmakers added.

Though Chumo provided the committee with his certificate of good conduct, the MPs revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) did not reply to a letter requesting the conduct of the nominee.

The committee went ahead to advise the NAtional Assembly to reject Chumo's nomination.

Mr Chumo, who appeared before the Committee on Monday, was nominated as chairman of the SRC by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
