KDF causes panic at the scene where late Nyeri Governor's Accident happened

The KDF truck was spotted just a few metres from where the late Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru was involved in a fatal crash.

The KDF truck carrying an armoured personnel carrier caused a scene after it veered off the road a few metres from where the late Gakuru was involved in the crash.

According to Kandara OCPD Gregory Mutiso, the truck slipped and got stuck in mud by the roadside while heading to Kahawa Barracks from Nanyuki.

The Wednesday evening incident caused a traffic snarl-up as hundreds of anxious onlookers milled around the area thinking that another accident had occurred at the scene where their governor met his untimely death.

The Kenol area at Kabati is known to be a major blackspot that has witnessed several accidents in the recent past.

The locals appealed to the Kenya National Highways Authority to put appropriate measures in place to prevent further accidents in the area as the highway tends to become slippery especially during the rainy season contributing to vehicles losing control.

Police disclosed that the fatal accident involving the governor was caused by a tyre burst during heavy downpour that pounded the area early Tuesday morning.

On Wednesday, the government announced that the late governor will be buried on Saturday, November 18 and will be accorded a state funeral at his home county.

Three teams have been formed consisting of both the national and county governments as well as senior state officials, relatives and friends to oversee the funeral and burial arrangements of the late Gakuru.
