Four people were on Thursday arrested after Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and DCI head, Machakos County, Rhoda Kanyi, raided a private clinic and recovered drugs and equipment that belonged to the government.

The four were arrested at Lugphram clinic, which is opposite the Machakos Level 5 Hospital, where theatre equipment and drugs with GOK label were seized.

The clinical officer at the facility was found to have not been qualified and the owner of the clinic was not able to explain how the items were obtained.

Mutua, proceeded to inspect the government hospital and stated that those found to have helped the suspects would face the law.

"We have found X-ray equipment from Level 5 Hospital and government drugs in a private clinic and people claim that Universal Health Care doesn't work because there are no drugs," remarked the Machakos Governor.

The governor further affirmed that the government had been giving out the required supplies to the hospitals but ended up being stolen.

12 infant bodies hidden in boxes at Pumwani hospital

In September last year, a similar approach was taken by Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko when he raided Pumwani Hospital and discovered 12 dead bodies of infants stuffed in boxes.

The surprise visit by the governor had caught the hospital’s management offguard.

“Conducting impromptu visit at Pumwani Hospital, where it’s alleged by members of the public that the management shut down the machines at the Maternity Wing, leading to loss of lives of young ones,” stated Sonko.

Sonko later alerted the police to investigate the matter and dissolved the hospital board.
