Migori ODM Chairman Philip Makabongo reported a break-in at his house over the weekend.

According to the party official, the vandals torched his two vehicles, a Subaru and a Toyota Sprinter.

Mr Makabongo reported having heard an explosion some minutes after midnight, which woke him up.

He further relayed that the assailants fled after he went out into his compound to check what was causing the commotion.

Police investigation

Rongo sub-county Police Commander Peter Kirui confirmed the incident adding that no suspects had been arrested.

"He (Makabongo) was awakened by an explosion outside his house, he went outside and found the two motor vehicles burning.

"He mobilized people to put off the fire and immediately reported to police the incident. The motive of the incident is yet to be established," Mr Kirui told reporters.

The officer also relayed that they were not able to salvage the cars as they were damaged for the larger part.
