Sonko's cabinet nominee rejected

You aren't fit for the job

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s cabinet nominee Sonia Birdi was on Tuesday rejected for the position of CEC for Environment by the Nairobi County Assembly.

The County Assembly Committee on appointments stated that Birdi was not suitable for the position due to her being temperamental and non-conversant with key issues.

Last Wednesday, Birdi had been put on the spot after she was questioned over her D+ grade score during her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

The former URP nominated MP in her case, defended the grade and pointed out that it was not a sign of failure but one of preparedness to work for the residents of the city.

"That D+ in my paper is not a failure but what I am bringing on the table.

"If I was not positive on the change I want to make, I wouldn't have applied for the position," remarked the former MP.

Despite her KCSE grade, the politician holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from D. R. College in India together with a second degree in Business Administration from UK's University of Sheffield.

Last week, CEC of Health nominee Stella Bosire, rejected the position after she failed to appear for her vetting process.

Bosire did not show up before the committee after she stated that there were pending issues yet to be addressed specifically Governor Sonko’s style of management.

She further highlighted that the problems posed by the governor included impromptu visits, sensationalising issues and lack of respect for professionalism.
