Luxurious Windsor Hotel facing closure after Nema inspection

The hotel's manager has been arrested

Nema orders closure of Michuki family-owned Windsor Hotel over discharge of waste into the environment

The National Environmental Management Authority (Nema) has issued a closure order against the Windsor Golf Hotel over poor sanitary management.

The authority on Thursday arrested the hotel’s manager after the prestigious establishment was found to be discharging untreated waste into the environment.

Nema has apprehended Windsor Golf Hotel Manager for discharging untreated effluent into the environment. The hotel also failed to implement recommendations proposed to it by the Authority on 20th June, 2019. A closure order has also been issued,” Nema said in a tweet.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, whose home neighbors Windsor Hotel, had raised a complain to the government over the release of toxic waste into a closeby river.

@NemaKenya Save us from Windsor Hotel pollution. We can’t sleep at night, they are releasing raw toxic effluent in to the river. I doubt you will do anything coz it has been reoccurring . @StateHouseKenya I have hope coz Tobiko is Tibim,” Kabogo said in April.

Incidentally, Windsor was built by former Environment Minister John Michuki, who introduced tough environmental laws, especially in the protection of rivers.

The hotel is now managed by his children after his death in 2012.
