A source who spoke to Pulselive.co.ke stated that the lift at the KU library malfunctioned and crashed from the third floor to the basement area with a loud bang.
The noise from the incident caused students to jump out of the building in fear of it being a terrorist attack.
The source who opted for anonymity, further noted that ambulances had arrived at the school but the condition of the people in the lift was yet to be known.
Earlier reports had indicated that several students had suffered serious injuries with some being claimed to have jumped from the third floor.
The university administration was however unreachable to comment on the matter.
Security drill goes wrong at Strathmore University
A similar situation had been witnessed in 2015 at Strathmore University after a security drill went wrong.
Reports had stated that students jumped out of buildings as they tried to escape after gunshots had been heard in the school.
Police who had arrived at the scene at that time had stated that the students and staff had been caught unawares by the procedure.
The botched drill had left one worker dead and more than 30 students with serious injuries.
