A morning accident along Kisii Sotik Road near Nyaronde claimed the lives of several people on Wednesday.

Witnesses said that the accident involved a 14-seater matatu and truck which was coming from Nairobi.
The accident is said to have happened near a road block.
A 2019 report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that a sharp rise in the number of fatalities linked to road accidents in 2019.

NTSA revealed that from January 16, 2018, to September 2018, 1756 men perished in road accidents compared to 386 women.
The authority further reported that the highest number of the accidents happened over weekends with 497 and 480 on Saturdays and Sundays respectively.
Nairobi recorded the highest number of deaths at 337, followed by Kiambu with 233 and Nakuru with 181.
Taita Taveta recorded 35 deaths from accidents, while Baringo and Migori recorded 33 and 32 respectively.
