Revealed: Details of the source of controversial letter on DP Ruto's assasination

The two reportedly authored and printed the letter at a cyber cafe along Langata road

The source of a controversial letter which alleged a plot to assassinate Deputy President Wiliam Ruto has been revealed.

Quoting sources familiar with the investigations into the allegations in which four Cabinet Secretaries from Mount Kenya have been named, Nation reported that the letter allegedly originated from the DP’s office.

The publication further indicated that two senior officials from the DP’s communication team are being sought by police in relation to the letter and the alleged plot which saw Cabinet Secretaries Sicily Kariuki (Health) Joe Mucheru (ICT) and Peter Munya (Industrialization) report to the DCI for holding meetings at La Mada hotel allegedly in relation to the assassination plot.

The two senior officials reportedly authored the fake letter at a cyber café located along Langata Road and had it printed.

Attempts to reach the duo on Friday to have them record statement over the allegations and the controversial letter ere futile as their phones were switched off.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief George Kinoti declined to comment on the developments and if the two will be arrested, stating that with investigations underway, he could not risk jeopardizing them.

"Investigations are still ongoing. I can't say anything that can jeopardise them," stated Kinoti.

A senior officer at the Interior Ministry who spoke to the publication on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal divulged that the two aides who are allegedly behind the fake letter are well-known individuals.

The allegations which generated political heat saw 4 CSs: CS Health Sicily Kariuki, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, Trade & Industrialization CS Peter Munya and Transport CS James Macharia report to the DCI after DP Ruto made a verbal complaint to DCI’s George Kinoti alleging threat to his life.

The CSs who later spoke to journalists said they could not respond to verbal allegations which are not formally filed by the complainant.

Munya told reporters outside the DCI headquarters stated they had gone through the allegations with the DCI officers and established that DP Ruto had made the call and complained of the alleged plot.

Terming the allegations as serious, Munya said: “The officers have confirmed to us that the DP made a call and complained that some CSs and other senior government officials have been meeting at Lamada Hotel, and specifically on 14 May, to plan how to kill him.”

He added: “These are indeed very serious allegations and that is why we want him to write a formal statement to enable us to respond.”
