Kenyans will from next month enjoy Unga at much cheaper prices thanks to Jumia.
The online retailer will now sell a 2kg packet of Unga at half the price that of the government subsidized edition
The online retailer has announced that as of July 3, a two-kg packet of maize flour will retail at Sh45 which is half the price that of the government subsidized packet of Unga which retails at Sh90.
The offer, which is a partnership between the online retailer and Tuskys supermarket, will be part of activities to mark the Jumia Anniversary Week.
The news will come as a huge sigh of relief to thousands of Kenyans who have had to go days without the sought-after commodity that is currently on short-supply in supermarkets and shops countrywide.
Jumia Vendor Relations Manager Benard Kimutai said the offer will go a long way in alleviating the ongoing maize flour crisis in the country.
Jumia said that offer will run for seven days i.e. from July 3 to July 9 2017.
Likewise, Jumia will extend its generosity to the Muslim community through Tuskys supermarket over the Ramadhan period by selling the 2KG packet at Sh80, ten shilling less than the current market price.
The country in May imported a total of 990,00 bags of 90 kg’s each of tax-free maize from Mexico through South Africa and sold to local millers for the processing of the Sh90 flour to cub the current maize flour shortage.
However, the situation is yet to improve given the shortage in supply of the subsidized maize flour being unable to meet the growing demand caused by panic buying whenever stock is available in shops.
