While reading the 2017/2018 budget at Parliament buildings, Mr Rotich announced that the government had allocated Sh1 billion for recovery of the sector and an equal amount for sustaining new markets and sitting booths.

The CS stated the Sh100 million had been set aside to improve the historic site, Fort Jesus which is located at the Coast.

The budget also factored in Sh600 million for capital lending to hoteliers, which take care for the thousands of tourists who visit the country.

“The government working with key stakeholders in the industry will continue to promote and develop new areas of tourism including sports, beach and medical tourism,” he added.

Mr Rotich further mentioned that the Government was also committed to supporting the county’s national carrier -Kenya Airways - as it struggles to revamp the business..

“The government will play a critical role in providing the necessary support and bringing other key stakeholders together to achieve a successful turnaround,” the statement read in part.
