Macron joins a long list of young leaders across the globe who are calling the shots

Pro-European centrist Emmanuel Macron resoundingly won the French presidential elections on Sunday by defeating his fiercest rival Marine Le Pen by a landslide.

He won 66.1% of the vote against 33.9% for Le Pen while the abstention rate was 25.44%.

“Thank you my friends, thank you for being here tonight. You have fought with courage. 'What we have done for so many months, everyone thought it was impossible, but they didn't know France. I thank you for your trust. Thank you for the risk some have taken.”  He told a jubilant crowd in his victory speech.

Macron is 39-year-old and a former investment banker, he has promised to serve his country with 'humility and strength'.

He joins a long list of young leaders across the globe who are young and sometimes politically inexperience.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

He is the 23rd and current Prime Minister of Canada and leader of the Liberal Party. Furthermore he is the second youngest prime minister after Joe Clark and the eldest son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

He was 43 when he took office in 2015.

Alexis Tsipras

The 185th and current Prime Minister of Greece is the youngest Greek leader in 150 years.

Mr. Tsipras was named prime minister in 2015 at the young age of 40.
