The National Super Alliance leader termed Trump's remarks as troubling and greatly unfortunate while demanding that he must “unequivocally” apologize for his actions.
“The remarks made by President Trump are part of a growing habit by a president who has never missed an opportunity to bully and disparage particularly poor nations,” the statement reads in part.
He noted that the comments are deeply hypocritical as they conveniently ignore the fact that US corporations have pitched tent in the same African countries that Trump has insulted and are making billions of dollars which they send back to their country.
“Recent media reports indicate that President Trump views Africa as a market for US goods and services and is keen to slow down on issues of democracy and human rights in pursuit of trade in Africa. Africa cannot be a market and a nothing at the same time,” the statement reads.
The opposition leader called upon other African leaders to stand up for the dignity of Africans and demand an apology from President Trump.
On Thursday, during a bipartisan meeting on immigration reforms, US lawmakers presented to President Trump the idea of restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and African nations as part of a bipartisan immigration bill, Trump reportedly replied:
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”
