Real Madrid is reportedly willing to spend more than half a billion dollars to keep Kylian Mbappe away from FC Barcelona, its main rival.

The Paris Saint Germain forward, 20, has recently been linked with a move to the Camp Nou next summer, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that the Catalan club could be lining him up as a replacement for Luis Suarez.

However, according to Le Parisien, as per Calcio Mercato, Madrid is now preparing to make a world record bid for the France international to prise him from Barca's grasp.

The French newspaper says Madrid is willing to pay PSG a transfer fee of $441 million to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu, which, when added to his current $23.2 million annual wage packet, could see his cost soar past the half a billion dollar mark.

Mbappe's contract at PSG expires in the summer of 2022, meaning the Ligue 1 champion will have to extend his deal, or sell him at the end of the season, to avoid allowing him leave Paris on a reduced valuation with 18 months left on his contract.

Le Parisian says Mbappe has been offered a new and improved $40.4 million per year deal, moving him in line with Neymar as the club's highest paid player, in an attempt to keep him at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe has enjoyed a terrific two seasons for club and country since his $156 million move to PSG from AS Monaco in 2017.

In 87 games, the 20-year-old has scored an impressive 60 goals, helping Thomas Tuchel's win back-to-back Ligue 1 titles.

Last summer, he stole the show for France as it lifted the World Cup, a tournament in which he scored four goals and won the competition's Best Young Player award.

This term, despite missing seven games through injury, he's scored nine goals, seven of which arrived in his last five games, and included a fine hat-trick against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappe missed PSG's last game with a minor adductor problem, however, he is expected to return on Friday, November 15 when the team faces LOSC Lille in Ligue 1.

PSG is currently top of the French first division with an eight point lead, having won 10 of its 13 games so far.
