Carrefour steps up Kenya expansion with new grocery store
The Village Market retail outlet will be Carrefour’s sixth store in the country
A Carrefour Market store operates with a different format compared to a hypermarket, with a larger focus on stocking a wide range of food items over non-food items. A Carrefour Market however stocks small electrical appliances.
Franck Moreau, Country Manager, at Majid Al Futtaim – Retail Kenya said Carrefour Market is an innovative approach that allows us to serve customers by offering them a store that caters for their everyday shopping needs.
“We will be embarking on construction work in May where the Carrefour Market will be located, and this will be followed by the installation of equipment and the relevant fit out to suit Carrefour’s international standards. When open, we assure customers of our sustained commitment to offer an unbeatable shopping experience and great moments for everyone, every day,” said Moreau.
Majid Al Futtaim opened its first Carrefour Market in 2009, and the different format store has since grown to become a popular sub-brand that specialises in offering fresh produce and local products, an appropriate assortment of non-food products, attractive prices in every aisle, and regular promotions.
Carrefour launched operations in Kenya in 2016 and currently operates five stores located at The Hub in Karen, Two Rivers Mall, Thika Road Mall, The Junction and Sarit Centre.
Once opened, The Village Market store will be Carrefour’s sixth store in the country, and a significant milestone in the retailers growth and expansion plans.
Majid Al Futtaim currently operates over 230 Carrefour stores across 15 markets and continues seeking opportunities to open stores in Kenya and the rest of the greater East African region.
