Some artists toil their whole careers to make a classic song, while others hit it straight out of the gate.

The year 2019 introduced a good number of talents that the world needs to watch closely before they blossom into big stars.

A number of artistes who have been in the music industry for quite some time got their big breakthrough in 2019, after struggling to make a name for themselves.

Here is a list of those who blossomed in 2019



Kenyan singer cum songwriter Bensoul became the first signee under Sol Generation Records - a music label founded by Africa’s Best Live Act, Sauti Sol.

To mark his debut, Bensoul released his first song called 'Lucy'. The reggae-infused became a favorite to many across East Africa, due to the manner which Bensoul delivered a heartfelt serenade with mellow yet powerful vocals.

His music style is a fusion of Caribbean music and Afro Pop. The producer/multi-instrumentalist plays Bass, Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Keys, Drums and Violin. He is also a talented songwriter and has written songs for a host of top African stars including Kidum, Alikiba and Nyashinski and Mercy Masika, among others.


2019 has seen Papa Soul drop songs like, Niombee, Ile Kitu ft Kaskazini and Favorite Song. He was also featured in Extravaganza, a song that introduced the Sol Generation family to the world.

Zzero Sufuri

Talking about Zzero Sufuri, Zimenishika has been such a big tune in 2019. Zzero who has been in the industry for more than 5 years got his breakthrough after his song Zimenishika went viral.

Since then he has released tunes like, Nuclear, Dondosa, Matiatia, Its Ok among others. He hails from Dagoretti Nairobi.



Masauti, born Mohammed Ali Said got his big break through in 2019 during the Play Kenyan Music debate that was ignited by Khaligraph Jones.

Immediately after he got noticed by the likes of Jalang’o who put him on the radio, promoting his music on a daily basis. Since then, he has marked his position in the Kenyan industry with collaborations with people such as Khaligraph Jones, Lava Lava, Nadia Mukami, Arrow Bwoy, Otile among others.

In 2019 only Msauti has released songs like; Leo ni Leo, Gaga, Kiboko Remix, Ipepete, Sokote, Dondosha, Lucy ft Otile, Lola ft Nadia Mukami and Kiboko.


Masauti started out his career in Mombasa before shifting to Nairobi where he is currently based. He works under Dream Nation, a company he co-owns with Producer Mitof the Don and Director Nezzoh.

Nvirii the Storyteller

Nviiri the Storyteller is a Singer-Songwriter, Guitarist, Performer and Video editor signed to Sol Generation Records. His full name is Nviiri Sande.

His career started to take shape after co-writing Melanin, a song that Sautio Sol featured Patoranking.


Nviiri dropped his first single under Sol Generation called Pombe Sigara. Others songs on Nviiri’s name include; Forever and

Nadia Mukami

In 2019 the former Maseno University student was among Kenyan Musicians who represented the country at Coke Studio Africa as a big break-through artiste.

Currently, Nadia is topping the charts with her single dubbed Maombi. Other songs that the song stress has released in 2019 include; Radio Love ft Arrow Bwoy, Ikamate Hiyo and Lola ft Masauti.


Nadia took up music professionally in 2015 when she recorded her single “Barua Ya Siri” while still in university.

Her single “Kesi” received massive airplay and got her an opportunity to perform alongside Kenya’s biggest stars at countrywide platforms like Blaze by Safaricom (Kisumu), The Nile Festival and The Luo Festival, among others.

Bey T

Female Rapper Bey T, was officially introduced to the world after featuring in Khali Cartel 3, a project that brought together a total of 7 able rappers.


Before that, Bey T, was involved in a war of words with Tanasha Donna, with allegations that Ms Donno was riding on her slogan” Kenya to the world”.

Bet T has produced songs like; just admit it, if they Dunno and Wololo.

Breeder Lw

Paul Baraka, known by his stage name Breeder LW, is a Kenyan hip-hop artist who also featured in Khali Cartel 3.


Breeder LW is one rapper you might not know but when you do get to know him, you will be happy you finally know him. On hi name Breder has songs like; Inde, Do re mi, Chachisha, Maiti, Kobra among others.


Marioo is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter based in Dar Es Salam. He got his big break after being taken in by veteran video Director Hanscana.

Previously, Marioo used to work behind the scenes, as a songwriter, but 2019 he changed and started doing music professionally.


He has recorded a number of hit songs in 2019; Ya Uchungu, Inatosha,Weka Ft Duky Skyes, Chibonge, Raha, Anyinya among others.

His first single Dar Kugumu was recorded in 2017.

Stivo Simply Boy

Stephen Otieno famously known as Stivo Simple Boy is one of the most adorable and influential artists in Kibera Today.


Stivo got the spotlight in 2019 after his single Mihadarati which was released in 2017 hit the airwaves. Since then Stivo has been making headlines in almost everything he partakes in.

Stivo is a product of Made in Kibera productions.

Xenia Manasseh

She is a fast rising star who moves between Nairobi and different states in America making and writing music that is nothing short of warm and unique.


She got the opportunity to work with Mr Eazi’s emPawa and King Kaka.

Chris Kaiga- Of the famous hit song Zimenice

Ndume- Gospel star working under Mr Seed’s Starborn Empire


Peter Blessing – The young talented artiste who was signed under Bahati’s EMB Records.

Boutross Munene- Boutross Munene is the leader of the new school with this new diverse form of music. The upcoming artist is signed and Vice President to ADF music.

Vallerie Muthoni- of the hit song spicy

SERRO – of the song Kasyoki Wa Mitumba
