What makes Anne Kansiime a major comedy brand?

Kansiime Kubiryaba Anne, popularly known as Anne Kansiime, is obviously a talented comedienne. But what specific qualities make her brand so special?

Let’s look at three of her comedic qualities which may explain her rise to the pinnacle of Ugandan comedy as a rock-solid brand.

Comedy is the harlot of the arts since, in more ways than one, its practitioners are often left “screwed” by it. The Sad Clown Complex leaves many of them prone to depression when they fail to channel their emotional neediness to the flow of a good joke. It is even harder for women because comedy is largely a boy’s club. So Kansiime’s decision to start comedy in 2007 is testament to a self-belief that serves a queen-bee function to swim against the tide. This also speaks to a can-do attitude milked for all it’s worth to convert the aesthetic of self-belief into a solid brand.

She started out on stage as a riotous sketch comedian before parlaying her theatrics to YouTube with skits that garnered international attention. Even before this transition to international celebrity, she jazzed up the MiniBuzz television series. Then she started doing stand-up comedy, where her sketch comedy persona is clearly identifiable in her monologues. Still, she has softened the blunt notes of her jokes with an unmistakable adaptability to her audience’s changing needs.

Kevin Hart once said that he doesn’t tell political jokes as they tend to polarise his audience into camps which deny him of their togetherness and thus a larger audience. Kansiime is much the same. You cannot detect a leftward or rightward lean in her utterances, meaning she occupies the middle ground and this is where most lovers of her comedy tend to be found.
