Kenyan celebrities who were filthy rich before fame

1. Karun Mungai a.k.a Runkah

From the way she carries herself and the fact that she studied at high-end schools like Peponi and Brookhouse School, one can tell that this petite vocal powerhouse comes from a well-heeled family. In fact, her  dad is a close childhood friend to President Uhuru Kenyatta who attended Karun’s  listening party for her solo album launch at the Muthaiga Golf and Country Club in 2013.

Her mum Molly Mungai is the CEO and Creative Strategy Director at African Mystique Ltd while her dad, Eric Arthur Mungai is the C.E.O of Astral Mining Corporation and the Managing Director of property company Speedway Investments. Unlike most people on this list, Prezzo has never been shy about flaunting his family’s immense wealth, in fact, he audaciously calls himself ‘old money’. His late father Dr Morris Makini established the famous Makini Herbal Clinics among other Nairobi businesses which have funded Prezzo’s lifestyle. A lifestyle that helped him raise and set the showbiz bars and catapulted him and the Cash Money Brothers into fame.

So well-off was Prezzo that his first car in University was 2000 Porsche 911 Gemballa he drove into school that was a gift from his mum.  A car that was so stunning that even his lectures could not help but marvel and gawk at the fresher in a Porsche.

When Michelle Morgan made her debut on Citizen TV, many couldn’t help but  admire her beauty and grace. Her father Bob once served as a senior assistant commissioner of Kenya police in the 80’s before he founded a security firm you are all probably aware of, Bob Morgan Securities simply known as BM securities. It now one of the largest Kenyan security firms and has a lot of branches from Mombasa to Webuye to Nyeri and provides security for Telecommunication, Banking, Commercial, petroleum firms among others

The SOMA awards nominee is known for his work at CNN and his self-titled show Jeff Koinange Live. He is also known as an Emmy and Peabody award winner. But despite his hard work to create a name for himself, Jeff actually doesn’t have to work a day in his life because he is the son of Frederick Mbiyu Koinange, son of Chief Mbiyu Koinange, a famous Kikuyu chief during colonial times.

Jeff is also related to the president because Jomo Kenyatta’s 3 wife Grace Wanjiku was the daughter of Senior Chief Koinange. Another famous relation of Jeff’s is the late billionaire Peter Mbiyu Koinange.

7. Adelle Onyango

Adelle Onyango’s mum was pretty influential before she passed away and her legacy still lives on through her daughter Adelle who is an ambassador for change especially when it comes to issues affecting the girl child, women empowerment and the toxic rape culture.
